Website Optimization 101: How Increase Your Website's Revenue

"Content is king." It's a saying you often hear in online marketing circles. Though it may sound like a cliché, the idea behind the quote is sound: high quality content translates to higher traffic, therefore, higher conversions. You need to make sure that your content provides some sort of value to your visitors so they'll hang out in your website longer.

But what use is good content when search engines can't find it? There is a ton of excellent, high-quality content on the internet today that remains undiscovered simply because it hasn't been optimized for search engines. Don't let that happen to you. Here are a few tips for website optimization to help make your website friendlier to both human readers and search engines.

Craft Awesome Headlines

You get one chance to make a first impression. The goal of a headline is to capture visitors' attention and make them crave for more. Don't use headlines that read as if they came from an academic book (e.g. "Benefits of X," "The Advantages of Doing X," "Types of X and Their Definitions"). Be creative and develop catchy titles that deliver your message are interesting enough to grab a skimming eye. There's a reason why those Upworthy-style headlines get a lot of clicks (e.g. We're Speechless: Faith in Humanity Restored After This Kid's Speech, How Can One Video Be Both Terrifying and Motivating At the Same Time?)… they're interesting!

Write an Exciting Call-to-Action

In school, we have been thought that using the second-person (i.e. "you") is a no-no in formal writing. Unlearn this. Your call to action is how you reach out to your reader. You want him or her to buy your product or to sign up for your service. You should use "you." And your call-to-action should demonstrate exactly what will happen when a reader clicks on that "Buy Now" or "Sign Up Today" button. What will they receive? What benefit will it give them? What can your product or service offer to them?

Rock Your Meta Descriptions

Though meta descriptions are not displayed as content, these tags (e.g. title, description, keywords, and robot tags) are still very important for search engine visibility. Keep your meta descriptions short and concise – limit each tag to about 150-160 characters. And don't just string some random keyword phrases together, make sure that the text in meta tags are welcoming and unique.

Incorporate Social

Social media sites like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Tumblr are more than just gimmicks or fads. These sites are treasure troves of potential customers. These are also the places where you can find most of your loyal customers. Having someone refer your business to their friends on Facebook means that that someone is personally vouching for your credibility. This is something that traditional ads can't accomplish. So, always, always incorporate social into your marketing campaigns. Keep accounts at all the major social networks and make sure to reach out to your customers whenever you can.
