Google's Upcoming Mobile-Friendly

Google's Blog announced a new update to its search algorithm. According to some leading experts on the subject, this will bring an even greater impact than 'Panda' and the 'Penguin' combined. The earlier updates interfered abruptly at the search engine's ranking factor and this one seems to be, as it is called, a "mobilegeddon" waiting to happen. According to Google the update has news that will bring more mobile sites in search results and more application content in first place.

The first changes should happen on April 21, 2015. "We will expand the use of mobile-friendly features such as ranking signals. This change will affect searches on mobile devices in all languages and countries, significantly impacting the search results," Google said.

What will this mean in practice? The answer is quite simple. According to Google, sites that offer versions for mobile devices will rank better in searches conducted from these gadgets. It is estimated also that the e-commerce industry earned at least US$ 11.1 billion in purchases made via mobile devices last year.

So you have an idea, in 2014, 10 percent of online sales were made from smartphones and tablets, which represents an increase of over 200 percent compared to the 2013 year.

But How Can You Tell If Your Site Is Mobile-Friendly Or Not?

1. Search for your website on Google with a mobile device. If you have a mobile-friendly label, then you passed the test.

2. Search for your site with the Google's Mobile-Friendly Test Tool.

Your website isn't mobile friendly? Then run to the Webmaster's Tools and click the "Ease of Use in Mobile Devices" tab. There you will find what should be changed to make your site mobile-friendly.
It is important that your site is ready for this new update because, besides Google starting to prioritize mobile-friendly sites, we cannot ignore the exponential growth of users coming through mobile devices.

Now is your chance to get mobile-friendly before this update hits. If you avoid making these corrections, you could miss a lot of inbound traffic from mobile devices. And this situation serves both a challenge and an opportunity. The challenge is for you to make your sites mobile-friendly before April 21st. The opportunity is that probably many in your niche will not update their sites accordingly, which will lead your mobile-friendly optimized site able to rank better for searches conducted within mobile devices.

It's been noted that HTML 5.0s and CSS 3.0s capabilities for making smart mobile-friendly sites are the key. Coupled with PHP 5+, you should be able to make these updates much faster and rank much higher when the update hits. So start acting now.
