The Importance of Data Encryption and Cybersecurity

Data is a precious commodity. Because of its value, there are always going to be unauthorized people who are going to try to get their hands on this data for their own profit. Cybersecurity and data encryption are two best used for data protection and website optimization. Here's what you need to know to keep your data safe:

Cybersecurity
The technology that protects data, programs, and databases from attacks and unauthorized users is called cybersecurity. Those associated with this technology are called “the white hats,” and those who are threat to it are known as “the black hats.” Cybersecurity is an ever-evolving technology—with every step the white hats make, the hacking black hats are not far behind. It is an ongoing cyber war. By removing threats that would otherwise slow down the server, cybersecurity can be regarded as website speed optimization.

Data encryption
Another way to defend data is data encryption. This process involves encrypting data with a key that is kept only by the administrators of the data or database. The hackers will not be able to access the data without decrypting the data with this key. This is predominantly seen in databases and websites.

Why Data Encryption and Cybersecurity Are Needed
It has become a necessity that every websites must be optimized with some measure of cybersecurity and data encryption to protect the site and its precious data. Hackers are using sophisticated threats to gain access to website data. If these unauthorized users gain access to website’s server and database, they can steal all the information about its users, including credit cards. They can access secret documents that might compromise the database so it can no longer be accessed by the administrators. These attacks might be repelled if proper cybersecurity white hats are placed in the line of defense of the website. It's not a guarantee against the black hats, but it's definitely necessary.

Data encryption, meanwhile, will encrypt the website’s database with one or more encryption keys. When hackers access this data, they will only see a bunch of characters that do not make any sense. This is a very strong layer of defense. The most common security technology in data encryption is SSL (Secure Sockets Layer), developed by Microsoft. It is a technology that enables sensitive data such as credit cards, security numbers, and login codes (normally sent in plain text) to be transmitted from one user to another one by encryption. SSL is a security protocol, a list of steps that must be taken in order to secure your data.
